A Special Message from our Superintendent

Dear SCVUHS Parents and Guardians:

In 2010, you passed a bond proposal for Santa Cruz Valley Union High School. The district has been working diligently to complete bond projects at our school. At the end of June 2014, all our bond projects will be complete. We have received many compliments from students, parents, and taxpayers on the improvements throughout our campus. Thank you so much for supporting this bond. It is greatly appreciated.

Thank you also for supporting our M&O Override. These funds were approved for the following:

  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment, providing funding for security: 13%
  • Maintain elective classes for students such as band, music, art, and career and technical education (CTE): 55%
  • Maintain teacher salaries and benefits, attract and retain highly qualified teachers, and maintain smaller class sizes: 16%
  • Increase athletic funding for current teams for uniforms, equipment, fields, and salaries: 16%

Override funding is for seven years; however, in year six and year seven the funding decreases by one-third each year. Next school year we will be in year five of our override. Because of this, on November 4, 2014, our district will be asking voters to approve the continuation of our existing M&O Override. The district is not asking for an increase percentage in this funding.

Without voter approval, our district is in danger of losing the above mentioned programs and services.

Thank You,

Richard S. Carino

Richard S. Cariño, Interim Superintendent
